DANCE ME TO THE END OF LOVE

Tre coppie danzano sulla spiaggia, in eleganti abiti da cerimonia. Con quest'opera Vettriano vuole riproporre a chi guarda le atmosfere raffinate della canzone di Leonard Cohen “Dance Me To The End Of Love”, dedicata alla persistenza dell'amore. L'uomo e la donna al centro sembrano rimandare a una giovane coppia di sposi, intenti in un romantico ballo nuziale. Le figure centrali, di spalle all'osservatore, sono rivolte verso il sole, che sembra suggerire un'ambientazione onirica. Vettriano lascia spazio alla narrazione di chi osserva, che può immaginare un sole nascente che apre a prospettive future o un tramonto alla fine del quale i due innamorati si ritroveranno insieme per sempre. L'opera, la cui scansione temporale sembra suggerita dalla struttura tripartita, si pone come un'allegoria della vita, evocando l'alternarsi di passato, presente e futuro. La purezza della donna al centro è sottolineata dall'abito bianco e dalla presenza dei gioielli di perle, che impreziosiscono la sua silhouette. I danzatori appaiono quasi immobili, colti in un istante atemporale che richiama il concetto di eternità.

With this work, Vettriano aims to recreate for the viewer the refined atmospheres of Leonard Cohen's song "Dance Me To The End Of Love," dedicated to the persistence of love. The man and woman in the center seem to refer to a young couple of newlyweds, engaged in a romantic wedding dance. The central figures, with their backs to the observer, are turned towards the sun, which seems to suggest a dreamlike setting. Vettriano leaves room for the narration of the observer, who can imagine a rising sun that opens up to future perspectives or a sunset at the end of which the two lovers will find themselves together forever. The work, whose temporal scan seems suggested by the tripartite structure, stands as an allegory of life, evoking the alternation of past, present and future. The purity of the woman in the center is underlined by the white dress and the presence of pearl jewelry, which embellishes her silhouette. The dancers appear almost motionless, caught in a timeless instant that recalls the concept of eternity.
